Sclerotherapy

Spider veins in the legs can be unsightly. The cause is not completely known, but heredity is believed to be the most common factor in the development of these veins. Other factors can include pregnancy, hormonal changes, changes in weight or lack of exercise. Spider veins are very small, thin clusters of dilated blood vessels that have a red or bluish color. They can appear anywhere on the body, but are most commonly found on the face and legs.

Sclerotherapy is a safe and relatively simple procedure used to treat spider veins . It can be performed in the office with minimal discomfort. A specially developed chemical solution is injected into the affected veins with a very small needle.

Lasers are sometimes combined with sclerotherapy for vein treatment and can provide safe and effective non surgical options for removal as well. New advanced laser treatment allows light energy to be delivered in precise dosages to the targeted vein, with little discomfort. A slight burning or stinging sensation may be experienced. After several treatments of either sclerotherapy or laser therapy, the vein fades and becomes barely noticeable, or disappears all together.
